When I said I want to put your drawing in your blog, your brother said he wanted to make his drawing and let me put it in his blog too.

Nevertheless, he doesn't think his drawing is as good as yours, so he asked you to help him to make his drawing instead. So, there you go, started another drawing soon after you have finished yours.

It's amazed to see you draw continuously, without a single pause. I guess you must have seen those images right in your brain.

Within a few minutes, you have almost completed the whole picture. Real fast...

Then you decided to add another character in (the one on the top left corner), and you seemed not too sure about how it looks, then you refer to the "Captain Underpants" comic book.

Ok, it's done.

That's the main character, Captain Underpants. You draw him real real good.

From there, you handed over it to your brother. He then started to color on it.

Daddy and I are pleased to see you swim well in free style now.

Actually you have started to learn swimming about 1.5 years ago in Stanford Swim School, but you seem stagnant after 4 months or so. When the chill winter time came, we made it an excuse and stopped the lessons for you.

It was until this year March, we received a promotional call from the swim school, and thought of giving you a try again. This time, you pick up the skills fast and finally made the breakthrough. Good boy.

Have A Little Faith

That morning, you were swallowing the supplement pills as per normal day...

All the while, I told you that those pills are good for your brain, and it can help you to become 'more clever' one day. You are so willing to co-operate because you so want to be 'clever', and if this is the way to achieve it, you would love to comply.

But at that morning, while you were swallowing the pills, out of a sudden, you asked me why other kids were born clever, but you were not? And why I didn't born you as clever as the other kids do?

I think I see the sadness in your eyes, and that break my heart into pieces again. Honestly, I have asked myself the same questions too, but I have no definite answers for any of this.

There is nothing I can said at that time except that I guarantee you that I will love you for who you are, and for no matter what. And I promise I will walk you through all the hinders ahead of us.

The good sign is, you have started to acknowledge your problem. That means you are getting increasingly mature now. Really, mommy have faith in you. I believe though slow, you will be there one day. We will work together for that, ok !

Happy 8th Birthday

As you wish, this year we held a 'big' birthday party for you, when we went back to Malaysia for CNY celebration.

So, don't ever say that we had only held birthday party for your brother, but never for you, ok?

This is a pandan layer cake. To mommy, it's very special because there is nowhere can be found over here in HK. To you, it's very special because of the Mickey Mouse on it. Anyway, we both agreed that the cake taste very yummy.

We all had a very good time that night. When we got back to grandma's house, you asked if I had taken home the Mickey Mouse doll. Shot, I forgot!

2 months after that dreadful accident, we all seem to get over the painful feelings gradually. But I will never forget that, let it be one of the most important lessons I've learnt in life.

Everytime I see this picture of you with blisters and peel of skin over the chest area and left hand, my heart broken. I'm so sorry for that.

The scars that left behind 1 month after...Doctor said it will fade off, just a matter of time.

I pray hard that the scars will fade off 100% one day. We'll see.

You two shoke your head instantly. So, I told you mommy's English name is "Jessy". Then I asked you guys if you know daddy's English name.

You thought for a while, then you answered in such a confident tone : "Woody".

It took me a few seconds to digest this before I finally got it. Oh, Woody and Jessie, as in the movie "Toy Story", isn't it? You nodded your head in pride. It really made me laughed whole heartedly.

The day before the final semester ended, you did something that moved my heart very much.

That night, you went to sleep as usual. But 10 minutes later, we saw you dashing out from your bedroom. You ran straight to your school bag and pull out a piece of small paper from the pocket there. You said the class teacher had asked you to write things on it and must return the paper to her the next day.

It was a self-evaluation form that contains 2 questions.

Have you set any goal for this year ?
(I asked you what do you want to write about your goals, and you sort of tell me this)

Goal 1 : I want to go to P2 (primary 2)
Goal 2 : I want to learn maths, Chinese, English and other subjects better.

What is the progress? Can you meet the target ?

(It's kind of difficult for you. So I just asked you to write down what mummy thinks instead)
Although slow, I can do it.

"Although slow, you can do it !" - is mummy's experiences with you all these years. You've never failed to show me how true it is. In fact, it has become my faith in you. I just hope everyone, especially your teachers, will see this in you and help you as much as mommy and daddy do too.

You didn't do good in P1, but the result isn't that matter to daddy and I. To us, we are satisfied to see your big improvement in this 1 year time. We will not give you up no matter how. Let's move on together, ok !

Lastly, I am happy to see you start to show more concerns and responsibilities on your homework as well as the 'words' from your teacher. That shows you do care, and that's very encouraging to me.

Visual Arts Portfolio

The teacher distributed this visual arts portfolio to you on last week, and the parents need to sign on it. Every semester, we get to see your VA portfolio, and we start to feel that you are pretty good in arts.

Unlike other core subjects, VA is the only subject that you do not need our guidance but can get good comments from your teacher. For instance, you got 3 "well above standard" and 2 "above standard" rating for this drawing (topic : Animal's World, media : Chinese painting)

Your teacher's comment : Delighted to use Chinese painting to draw animals. Good command the techniques of Chinese painting. Well understand the composition of combining animals together.

Sorry, we don't mean to question you. We just seldom do coloring at home now a days, so your improvement did surprise us.

Old Teeth Gone, New Teeth Come

Nov 2007 : the teeth that next to lower jaw's central Incisor (Lateral Incisor)

May 2008 : the 2 front teeth at upper jaw (Central Incisor)

Early May 2008, the new front teeth erupted, and pushed the old front teeth (deciduous dentition) aside.

One of the stubborn front teeth won't fall off itself after a long time, it made you look so awkward. End up, daddy had to take you to the dentist to get it pull out.

End-Jun, just when I remember to take some photos of your new teeth, I find that they have grown that big already.

Your teeth look pretty neat, I think you are going to look just fine.

Climbing Wall

We were invited to attend a very special birthday party 2 weeks ago. The party was held in the YMCA Indoor Climbing Wall training facility, which we have never entered there before.

The YMCA Indoor Climbing Wall is the modern training facility for climbers of all abilities – form beginners right through to the best in the world! Even for the small kids who have never been exposed to this sport before can take part in it. How great !

There are 2 indoor climbing walls offering 8 and 15 climbing routes of varying degrees of difficulty respectively. The wall offers the highest quality and most sophisticated artificial climbing wall in HK. Over 266 square meters of exciting panelled climbing surface is available.

All of the Climbing Wall staffs are experienced climbers and are available to advise on all your climbing queries. The Wall is a great place to learn the basic skills of climbing and rope work or develop new techniques in an exciting but controlled environment.

There was 3 qualified instructors to assist in this beginner program. First, the young participants need to do some warm-up exercises.

Then there is a short practice session for the beginners to get use of the boulders by coordinating their hands and legs properly. The moved horizontally instead of vertically in the practice.

After that, the instructors put on the safety ropes on the children before they started to climb up the wall.

One of the instructors explained the basic techniques about climbing wall to those kids. I'm not sure how much information they could absorb by just listening to him.

So, he got to demonstrate how to climb up this 7 m high wall by himself lah.

That little girl, Karen, is the birthday girl. She seems a familiar climber. Therefore, she is the best person to go in the first line. She called a quit when she reached that most challenging part of the wall.

It's Vincent's turn. Last check on the rope before he was set to go.

As soon as the instructor gave him the signal, he started to climb up the wall in a confindent manner.

They are just like spiderman.

While Vincent was trying hard to climb, the bigger boy has almost reached the top, but the little girl quited.

He reached the most difficult part of the wall...

He was trying hard to get over it...

Could see that he was trying real hard...

and it seems very difficult to him...

He stuck there for some time, didn't know what to do next...

The instructor didn't just let him down. Instead, he asked him to step on the boulders on his left, and moved up.

Since he wasn't told to get down, he could only continue to climb up...

It was very moving to see him getting over that barrier with all his strength and effort. I started to cheer for him, some people followed too. I just felt so proud of him at this moment.

YES, son, just a few more steps, and you will be there.

Just one more step...

YES YES, you have made it. I'm really very proud of you.

He must be very scared up there. He looked down at the instructor, waited for his instruction to get down.

ok, he was told to get down now.

He was stepping down slowly. At first, very anxious to let go his hand of the boulders. By right, he should have trusted the rope and the instructor who supported him on the ground.

Although the instructor asked him to let go of his hands, so that he could help him down faster, he was still too anxious to let go.

Finally, he got his hands and legs off the boulders.

Before he landed, the instructor taught him the proper way to get down.

This was his 2nd climbing attempt. But he knew how to call a quit this time.

He just let go his hands and legs, said he was scared and wanted to get down. The instructor didn't push him any further. So he didn't make it to the top this time.

The 1st attempt was a success because he didn't know how to quit, so he just got to move forward.

The 2nd attempt was not completed because he knew he has the option to quit at anytime.

Perhaps this is one of the reasons why some people can achieve the highest goal while some can't? Once we know it's ok to quit, the magic gone.

Anyway, this is a very good exposure and experience for Vincent. I appreciate it.

7th Birthday

It's your 7th birthday.

You didn't have many requests on your birthday, except a birtday cake and presents. That's not hard to fulfill. In additonal of this, we bought you your favorite fried chicken wings too.

Seeing your happy face, I feel very happy too. My motto : YOU HAPPY, I HAPPY !

We had had a simple celebration at home, restricted to family members only. Maybe we can invite your best friend to come home for celebration next year. Could it be a girl? Emm....

After the dinner, you opened the box to check your birthday cake eagerly. Seems like it's really important for kids to MUST have a cake for birthday.

Although it's not your dream cake (I know it should be Ultraman Cake), you have no complain about it. You still look very happy when seeing it. Thank you.

Cowboy Drawing

This is Vincent's favourite comic book series, COWBOY.

Apart from the other storybooks, this comic is one of our most borrow books from the library. Apparently, this book is very popular among the young children in view of it's not always available in the book shelves. We sometimes have to look high and low at every places in the kid's corner for it.

It doesn't contain much words but a simple title, with comical pictures to express the short storyline. Basically it talks about the relationship between Cowboy and his father, occasionally with his mother and the society around him. It's a very down-to-earth, easy-to- catch-up, light reading material for children.

*Vincent likes drawing. And he can draw pretty good. This is one of the good drawing he made on yesterday after he read this comic book a long time by himself.

He drew it on a magic board, the kind one can erase everything in a vertical straight line when pulling the 'green' knob from one side to the other. He must have done it in one shot, without any flaws that he needed to erase it. That make me appreciate this piece of drawing very much.

You know, one of the reason why Vincent like to go JMC is because of you. Every Saturday morning, he so look forward to exchange toys and play with you on the train back home. You have been a good company to him all this time. We are very glad to get to know you.

In the class, you sing well, listen well and play well. You definitely deserve 3As as the scores. Besides that, you are a polite, smart and handsome boy. I bet your daddy and mommy must be very proud of you. Keep that on !

Completion - Yamaha JMC

Today is the last lesson of Yamaha JMC that lasted for 2 years. Can't believe we are persistance enough to complete all of the 4 stages.

At every completion of the stage, I have no confidence if I can help you to make it further through. To be honest, I did think about giving up some point at the time. But I wanted so much to give you a chance to prove that "you-can-make-it" too, though slow.

Gradually, I see the rewards. And I'm very proud to see your achievement for the past 3 months.

Children in this course will learn three basic elements of music : rhythm, melody and harmony through hearing, singing and playing. Based on the above criterias, here is mommy's rating to you :-

Hearing Part : Excellent (able to hear and express all of the musical notes, chords & songs accurately. A pefect pitch you had achieved !)

Singing Part : Moderate (if only you concentrate and sing, your high pitch vocal will make you an outstanding singer)

Piano Playing : Good (you have good memory and keyboard harmony. But need improvement in fingering part)

Ms Kwong has been conducting the class for this 2 years. Besides having a a sweet face and a sweet smile, she has a great vocal too. I think everyone will hold their breathe and listen quietly when she sings. Here, I want to thank her for all the patience and dedication in teaching the children.

In the last lesson, the students are required to take part in a mini concert, held in the classroom. Vincent played "Magic Flute" and "Poor Kitten" this time.

As part of the FSS test (Fundamental Skills Survey), the kids need to sing a song in group. Ms Kwong had chosen "Let's Be Friend" for them. They have been practicing this song since weeks ago before the end of the course. At first, they couldn't cope with singing and acting at the same time. Gradually, they show some improvement, though not perfect yet.

Supposingly, there should be 5 children to perform this song. However, one boy was absent due to schooling matter that day. As for the other girl, she had decided not to participate in the graduation ceremony nor the FSS test. Wonder why?

Anyway, the 5 of us (parents) are cooperative enough to continue the course till its end. Should any of us quit, the class would become too small that Tom Lee Music Centre would have to dismiss the class and assign us to other class. And this can only be done if there is any appropriate class available for us. Thank God, this didn't happen !

Originally, the class consisted of 12 children. But, 7 kids had dropped the course throughout the time continuum. The success rate is barely 42%.

For the remaining 5 children and their parents (Matthew, Tze Ho, Kimmy, Crystal, Vincent), they deserve a big applause !!

The kid on the left, a future Yahama-JMC student he will be. I wonder if Ms Kwong will become his instructor as well? I certainly hope so.

The graduation ceremony was held in HK Jockey Club Auditorium, at 16-Sep. There are around 600 graduates around HK in this batch.

As for Ms Kwong's students, they perform "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".

I wish all of you to become the Star of Tomorrow, no matter what you choose to do in the future.

Bye-Bye Kindergarten

Through all the barricades, it's time to leave the kindergarten that you have been studying for 3 years. How time does fly...

I'm not sure how you feel about leaving this school, cause you seem so fine with it . As for mommy, I have had many mixed feelings about it.

Soon, we have to leave the comfort zone and enter another new phase in life. I guarantee there will be a lot of new challenges ahead of us. But do not worry, let's embrace everything with an open heart. Mommy will walk you along the path no matter what happen.

Our Piano

2 months before Vincent completing the Junior Music Couse, finally I had made up my mind to buy him a piano. The major reason for the procrastination is because I'm not too sure if he really like to pursue piano lessons afterwards.

Anyway, I'm impressed and amazed to see his achievement, especially in the hearing part. I just feel that it's too waste to call a quit here, after so many efforts we have put in. So, let's give it a try, ok?

This is a 2nd hand piano. I had a special feeling when I first see it. Furthermore, the shop owner is very generous to reduce the price in a great deal to us. So, we bought it without much though. I guess this is 'fate' lah.

I hope this piano will become part of our family for a very long time...

Farm Monster

The school want to hold a Farm-Day party for fun.

All the kids were invited to transform themself to some sort of farm animals. Sigh, time for the parents to work out again.

A non-creative mom like me scratch and pull the hair, then finally come up with this idea...

Step 1 : I collect 2 carton boxes, some used bubble bags, some strings, from my company. Of course they are FOC. Hehe..

Step 2 : I cut the carton box to make the animal's body and its tails, and its 4 legs.

Step 3 : I cover the body with the white papers to conceal everything that was printed on the carton box.

Step 4 : I let the kids to decorate and make the final touch-up with colour papers and bubble bags.

Step 5 : Blow a balloon to make the head. Ask the boys to draw the eyes, nose and month on it.

Step 6 : Put the string so they can wear it easily.

I just love to see the face of the people when they are concentrate in doing something. It's equally attractive to smiling happy face.

The Cousin Brothers

The boys like to play with their cousin brother, Hang-Hang, who is non-aggressive and quiet most of the time. Maybe he seldom fight with them, so they are getting along fine with him though they only see one another once a year.

Don't get it wrong, they were not gambling. Their grandparents place lack of toys to play, so they took this as building blocks.

Asked them to sit properly on the sofa, and they gave me those very mischievous poses...like they were watching a lousy football match and cursing the players...

Almost every night of the CNY, the children played fireworks. They have more guts than I in igniting the fireworks and threw it on the ground.

The Most Improved Student Award

On Vincent's 6th birthday, he came home carrying a big box in his hands. There was a paper attached on the box. Oh, it's a commendation certification. Apparently, Vincent has won the award for the most improved student during the school year 2006-2007.

He was very happy that day. Kept talking about the present he got from his teacher.

This award means a lot to me. It reflects how his teachers observed the significant improvement he had made for the past 6 months, and thus, they gave him this award as a recognition. I am really proud of him.

William is happy too. He treated it as his own achievement.

But I think he like the toy inside more lo...

The present is a lovely train set. It's a 2nd birthday present for Vincent.

As usual, we keep the birthday celebration a family business. Although we have thought about holding a birthday party in the McDonald Restaurant this year, somehow we didn't materialize it. Maybe next year...but, no guarantee.

The birthday dinner was totally different from the dinner we had in normal days. We prepared the foods he likes to eat. The main course was supposed to be fried Udon. However, for Vincent, the KFC fried chicken and Portugese egg tart was his instead. Both Vincent and William finished up the foods without any 'reminder'. How nice if they can behave like this every night. Perhaps the normal dinner's food is too boring?

After the dinner, they put on the birthday hat and started this long awaited moment to lit up the caddles and blow it off.

The present from daddy and mommy. They were so happy to see it when KS took it out from the hiding place. Especially William, he jumped up and down like he is the most happy kid in the world. Seeing how happy they were, make all the money and effort worthwhile.

One of the reasons why we choose to buy the toys with many separate items than a single item is to avoid fight between the brothers.

From now on, I will take the photos of their toys before they destroy it or the toys broken. I think it's a good way to commemorate the toys that had brought so much fun for them along the way of growing up.

Vincent has been asking for a helicopter for a very long time. Finally, his dream came true.

1st Tooth Gone

A few months ago, Vincent showed me a loosen tooth at his lower gum. He was pretty cautious about this loosen tooth. Although painless, he would avoid using that part of teeth when he ate anything. I guess maybe that's the reason why it took such a long time to fall.

A few weeks later, I saw a new tooth grew out from behind the loosen tooth. It's pretty weird to see a new tooth co-exist with the old tooth at the same location. I wanted to take him to the dentist place to get it extracted. But there were certain considerations and worries (maybe too subjective) that stopped me from doing this.

Just when I finally decided to take him to see the dentist, the tooth fell off unexpectedly. It happened when he was eating a bowl of noodle that Sunday afternoon...I was talking with my friend, and I was distracted when I saw him jumping down from the chair, looking around the floor while saying something in panic tone. Before I figured out what happen, I saw blood flowing down from his mouth. Only a few seconds later, I realized his tooth had fallen off. I was right.

When I was busy, trying to stop the bleeding, his little friend was kind enough to look around the floor and pick up the fallen tooth for me. Here it is...When I reached home, I put it into a small plastic bag, sealed it and kept it into his personal clear folder, just like I kept his ambillical cord.

I felt so relieved now...I think the new tooth will gradually move forward to its right place.

Suddenly, you look like such a big boy now. Congratulations to your natural fall.

DIY a Monster Suit

In the middle of dinner at one evening, Vincent seem to remember something suddenly. He bounced up from the dining chair and went to pull up a black plastic-object from his school bag. At the first glance, I wonder why there was a rubbish bag put inside his bag. I was half right only. Vincent claimed it was a monster suit. Apparently, this was a monster suit made by a rubbish bag. Although it's nothing fancy, I'm sure it's his own design. He like it so much, and asked me to take some photos for him. Sure, son, I would love to do this for you.

They were playing this game again : Ultraman vs Monster.

They played like that for quite some time. Luckily I wasn't invited to join them.

They only stopped playing when the TV show their favorite documentary film about wild animals.

Christmas Present '06

Christian or non-Christian, we celebrate Christmas anyway.

This is the Christmas present we bought for him at the very last min. I wrapped it with a beautiful paper, though I think he won't care what paper it is.

I told the boys the present was given by Santa Clause, cause they are good boys. Gosh...I wish there really Santa somewhere, so that we don't have to buy the present at Christmas time.

For small girls - they play Barbie set, with beautiful clothes, hairsets, jewellery etc.

For small boys - don't know which genius had designed this set. It contains a masculine hero, equipped with a mask, a sword, a steel vest, a belt, and a brief case where one can put in the gun, handphone etc. TOTALLY GENIUS.

Swing Like a Monkey

How great is the influence of peers? Here is an example.

Since long ago, we have encouraged Vincent to swing himself from one end to the other end. But, he has been too coward to move up if his dad was not there to support him. It was until he saw all his good buddies there can swing like a monkey, there he started to follow. At first, he tried a few swings. After several days, he himself a monkey like the rest too.

Boy, suddenly I realized this is the thing he can do, but I can't.

One day, he called me out from the kitchen there, and show me proudly that he not just can move horizontally, but vertically too.

A Spiderboy

Halloween is around the corner.

As usual, the school would want to hold a party for the kids to participate in the celebration. Parents can dress up or make up the kid to whatever / whoever they desire.

Most of the busy (or lazy) parents would grab whatever tools / costume that can be found easily in the market. Well, we are no exception. Initially, I wanted to turn them into devils / vampires that would cost the minimum amount of $$ , however the boys wanted to be nobody but spiderman.

So, spiderman they were. Luckily, the costume is not too expensive. Else, broke lah.

Testing 1,2,3...

No matter how many times they have tried, but still, they couldn't get their eyes seeing through the 2 holes there.

Finally, 2 Spiderboys on the sofa. The right one is Vincent (No.1), the left one is William (No.2)

Siperboy No.1 wanted to show off his new identity in the playground. And he got to be in some sort of 'actions' to attract people's attention.

@ No doubt, Vincent enjoys being a spiderboy very much. I think if we give him this costume to wear everyday, he will take it happily. But William, he likes it for '5 min' only. On the party that day, he refused to dress it up no matter how we've persuaded him.

This is how Vincent learn to ride bicycle without the help of a pair of supporting wheels. First, we removed one of the supporting wheel, and let him cycled until we saw he could do it without the wheels. Then, we removed the only supporting wheels on the bicycle there. At first, he hesitated for a while. But when he find out himself can actually ride, there he goes, dashing out as fast as a wild horse.

No struggles, no protest, finally, he mastered this life-long skill in his own pace when he was 5 yr 8 mth old. Well done, son.

Outing I (June 2006)

The kindergarten students were brought to attend a program held by the Health Department. The purpose of this program is to teach the young children the importance of taking good care of their teeth and the correct way of teeth-brushing.

Since then, Vincent know if he eats too many sweets, his teeth will decay and he will have to visit the dentist to get it extracted.

A Brief Memoir

Vincent is going to primary 1 in September, year 2007. It's time to look for the school information, attending their open day, filling up the application form, preparing ourself for an interview etc....

To apply a seat in a good reputation school is something like we adult apply a job in a big and established company. First of all, we have to send out the application letter, preferably attached with a CV and other supporting documents / certificates. KS has written a CV for vincent which we hope would help him to gain some particular attention, hehe...
